Beyond partaking in all of the festive goings on that the summer season brings, Houstonians are gearing up for 713 Day this weekend, the unofficial holiday celebrating the city of Houston that is named after its original area code.

Every year on July 13, restaurants and bars around town host festive gatherings, offer food and drink specials, and give locals lots of reasons to share the love they have for Houston. Whether you’re a devoted Houston native, or a “Newstonian” who freshly calls the city home, enjoy a sense of community and belonging this Sunday at these spots pulling out all the spots for 713 Day.

Fielding’s River Oaks

Fielding’s River Oaks is ringing in 713 Day with a special happy hour brunch on Sunday, July 13. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests can take advantage of half off Fielding’s cocktails, $3 off wines by the glass, and $2 off beers, while enjoying the restaurant’s signature brunch menu with highlights including lemon cream cheese pancakes, steak and eggs, and chilaquiles. Reservations are encouraged. 3750 Westheimer Rd., Houston, fieldings.com

Sylvia’s Enchiladas

For two and a half decades, Sylvia’s Enchiladas has honored the Texas and Mexican cities that the restaurant’s 19 different enchiladas are inspired by and named after, but its own hometown of Houston was notably missing from the bunch. Chef-owner Sylvia Casarez fittingly chose this year’s 713 Day to introduce her 20th enchilada, “the Houston”, to the menu. The enchilada, a spicy barbacoa variety topped with chile de arbol red sauce, fresh onions, and cheese, pays homage to Houston’s rich barbecue culture. When it officially debuts on Sunday, July 13, a platter with rice and beans for $18.95 will serve as an exclusive off-the-menu item for those who request it at either of Sylvia’s Enchiladas location for lunch and dinner.
