Houston’s most sizzling culinary showdown is back. After two years of searing success, DiningOut Events is firing up the grills for its third annual RARE Steak Championship, returning to POST Houston on Thursday, October 23. During the festive, food-filled evening, attendees and a panel of judges will vote upon the best steak dishes in the city.

Sponsored by Buckhead Meat & Seafood, RARE is an indulgent evening unlike any other, complete with unlimited steak tastings from some of Houston’s most celebrated chefs, all in one sprawling locale. Beyond epic tastings, attendees can witness as steaks are grilled fresh onsite and plated right before their eyes.

In its third year, the lineup of more than 25 local restaurants is better than ever, with chef contenders from hot spots like Guard & Grace, Barbacana, Hidden Omakase, Marmo, Medium Rare, Rainbow Lodge, State of Grace, the Palm, Vic & Anthony’s, and Gulf & Prairie, competing in two signature categories: Best Traditional and Best Creative Steak.

RARE will also mark the return of Surf, the exclusive seafood-focused VIP experience that made waves last year. Reserved solely for VIP ticket holders, Surf serves as its own dedicated competition featuring eight seafood restaurants vying for top honors. The private section includes lounges, demo stations, and a live DJ, offering an elevated prelude to the steak-filled celebration.

A Best Cocktail title will once again be awarded among the city’s top beverage professionals, guaranteeing that attendees will have no problem quenching their thirst with cocktails of all types (plus beer, wine, and sodas) while journeying across festival grounds.

Throughout the evening, guests will be given the opportunity to cast their vote for People’s Choice, while a panel of judges, made up of local food and drink pros, will cast theirs for Critic’s Choice.

Live entertainment, including a concert stage, and photo ops set against Downtown’s twinkling skyline, will have guests savoring every moment. An awards ceremony, in which all of the winners of the night will be named, serves as the grand finale to a thrilling evening.

The 2025 RARE Steak Championship continues DiningOut’s mission to spotlight Houston’s incredible culinary talent. As an extension of DiningOut Magazine, which has long had a presence in Colorado and has newly launched in Texas, the brand plays a pivotal role in uplifting local chefs and restaurants. With a legacy of multi-sensory, chef-driven events like RARE and Top Taco, which is held in Houston in the spring, DiningOut Events has earned a reputation for transforming dining into an experience—one bite, sip, and beat at a time.

Tickets to RARE are available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Blackwood Educational Land Institute, a local nonprofit that educates on the role of regenerative agriculture and sustainable food systems.
