State of Grace is the brainchild of James Beard-nominated chef, and Houston native, Ford Fry. The buzzy and low-lit restaurant brings sophisticated Southern charm and Gulf Coast flavors to River Oaks. With its preppy hunting lodge vibes and a centerpiece oyster bar ideal for walk-ins, it’s an undeniably romantic setting. Start with the Gulf shrimp cocktail ($19) or indulgent bread service with caviar ($30), before diving into blackened redfish ($49) or a New York strip ($59). Pair it all with a bottle from the well-priced wine list, and you’ve got yourself an evening to remember. 3258 Westheimer Rd., Houston, stateofgracetx.com

Potente

Located in the heart of Downtown, Potente feels like a scene from a romantic Italian dream. It’s got moody lighting throughout its dining room and dedicated bar, polished modern decor, and most importantly, a menu touched by chef Danny Trace’s culinary wizardry. The Spaghetti al Tartufo — a riff on cacio e pepe, topped with truffles shaved tableside — is pure luxury, while local Gulf ingredients elevate dishes like Louisiana tuna and Texas shrimp.
