The 411

Following its recognition at last week’s Michelin Guide Texas ceremony for making the Bib Gourmand list, buzz around Killen’s BBQ continues as it has been announced the popular Pearland restaurant will open an outpost inside William P. Hobby Airport next summer. Killen’s BBQ joins a number of local eateries slated to open in the next two years, including Velvet Taco, the Rustic, Common Bond, and Dish Society, as part of Hobby’s buzzed about dining transformation.

Happenings

On Tuesday, November 19, Riel is serving as host for Bayou City Hemp’s THC dining series, “High Society” with a THC-infused dinner experience. The evening, coined “Danksgiving”, kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome drink and passed appetizers, followed by the five-course meal at 7 p.m. Various food and drinks presented throughout the dinner will be infused with THC, with guests given the option to choose a no dose option if they please. Tickets are $130 per guest, and can be purchased on Resy.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, Trill Burgers is partnering with popular fantasy sports platform, Underdog Fantasy, to give away a complimentary OG Trill Burger to any guest (18 and up) who can show proof of their account in the app at checkout. Trill Burgers will keep extended hours on this day, remaining open until midnight.

On Thursday, November 21, the third annual Shuck Cancer Houston event, hosted by the Houston Young Professionals for the American Cancer Society (HYP4ACS), will bring together more than 25 Houston restaurants, bars, breweries, and wineries showcasing beverage and oyster pairings for a great cause. From 7 to 10 p.m. guests will be treated to an oyster bar and oyster shooters from Pier 6 and Prestige Oysters, plus bites from Field & Tides, the Original Ninfa’s, Eugene’s Gulf Coast Cuisine, and Auden, among many others. The Moment Band will take to the stage, with Derrick Shore, co-host of KRPC’s Houston Life, serving as emcee for the evening. Tickets are $150 per guest and can be purchased at www.ShuckCancerHouston.org.

Chef Eduardo Alcayaga is sharing his expert tips while cooking paella over a live fire during Mutiny Wine Room’s Paella Sundays, to be held on November 24 and December 29. Guests can opt for seatings at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., or 6:30 p.m. and enjoy seasonal paella mixta ($38) and Spanish wine pairings by the glass ($15) or bottle ($56).

On the Menu

Mi Cocina has launched a new, three-course prix fixe menu for dine-in guests, featuring dishes exclusive to its Houston location. The Gulf Coast-inspired menu is $35 per guest and features signatures like tacos de redfish, salmon adobo, pollo pica pica, and chocolate tres leches.

Beginning Thursday, November 21, Lick Honest Ice-Cream is releasing a selection of retail items suitable for gifting this holiday season. The selection is available at all Lick locations while supplies last, and includes items like hot cocoa jars, bags of marshmallows, candied pecans, and Vollman milk in regular and eggnog flavors. The retail items will be released ahead of the launch of Lick’s eight new holiday flavors, which include varieties like iced sugar cookie, gingerbread, and peppermint bark, and will be available from November 29 through January 12. 

Weeks after opening in its new home at the Montrose Collective, Mi Luna has launched happy hour and weekend brunch. From 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, guests can enjoy discounted tapas, like patatas bravas, empanadas, and pinco de pollo, plus $10 cocktails and $5 sangria at the bar for happy hour. And on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. a Spanish and Moorish-inspired brunch menu includes dishes like pan con tomate and French toast with vanilla custard.

Western Addition’s neighboring Post Oak Plaza restaurants Il Bracco and Balboa Surf Club have both launched a daily happy hour, available from 3 to 6 p.m. Balboa Surf Club’s offerings include new dishes offered exclusively during happy hour, like goat cheese-stuffed Medjool dates ($9), crispy grouper tacos ($15), and tuna tostada ($14); plus discounted cocktails like the Hugo Spritz ($12) and wines by the glass ($10). Highlights from Il Bracco’s happy hour include focaccia bruschetta ($10), arancini ($11), along with $12 cocktails and $10 wines by the glass.

For its first partnership with chef Austin Waiter of the Marigold Club, Kolache Shoppe is offering a duck à l’orange kolache ($4), which pairs duck-Armagnac sausage with thyme-infused orange jam. The specialty kolache joins a number of seasonal varieties available in November, including pumpkin cream, smoked turkey and gravy, and cranberry holiday, offered Thursday through Saturday at Kolache Shoppe’s Greenway location, and Friday through Sunday at the Heights and Pearland locations.
